St. John Ambulance Cork was proud to have played a part in one of the most historic days in living memory. With the help of colleagues from our division in Limerick, our sister voluntary organisations, and the HSE Ambulance Service, St. John Ambulance Cork lined the streets of the inner city during the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. In one of the largest security operations in the history of the State, St. John Ambulance Cork were delighted to be present in a medical capacity. With a lot of pre-planning and work taking place, it was clear that all hands were needed on deck We welcome Austin Florish and Philip Tuohy from Limerick Division, who kindly offered an ambulance and crew for the day. Cork City was essentially split in two along the route for the day. As a result, there had to be ambulances on both sides of the route, as no crossover was allowed, unless pre-arranged and in case of extreme emergency only. In addition to our ambulances, there were two Cycle Responders on both sides. One of our Responders was tasked with bringing an important sample to a local hospital, as there was no vehicular access. We would like to give special thanks to our colleagues from Limerick who travelled up for their day to bolster our presence. Opportunities to work with our Divisions on duty are rare, and we are grateful for all the help they gave on the day. Every one of our members you see on duty, whether at a GAA match, point to point, or motorsport event, started off learning their skills at first aid courses in St. John Ambulance Cork. If you would like to learn these skills, then contact us using the button above. We offer a wide range of courses such as first aid, occupational first aid and use of a defibrillator (AED). We would very much like to hear from you!
