St John Ambulance Cork, were delighted to participate at the annual Senior Competitions, held in Brigade Headquarters on Saturday April 16th last. The environs of HQ played host to 17 teams from all over the country, from Co. Louth to Co. Cork. The competitions were very successful and universally praised by all, as one of the best of recent years, with excellent time-keeping and realistic injuries.

Warm welcomes were extended to teams from our newly formed divisions from Drogheda and Knocklyon, who had entered teams into competition for the first time. Our teams were encouraged and cheered on by a large contingent of travelling supporters

The teams contended with a large variety of injuries on the day, ranging from electrocution to cardiac arrest. The consensus from the judges was one of admiration, with the belief that if the situation was real life, there would have been a good outcome for the patients involved.

 Congratulations were extended to Castleknock, who were victorious in the Iveagh Cup (right). The Iveagh Cup is considered to be the pinnacle of the Brigade competition calendar, and it takes a good deal of dedication by the team members in training for it. Cork City Division (left) took the honours in the Novice Cup. The Novice Cup is a competition conceived for new members, and members who have never won a Senior competition before. It is a fantastic way in which to learn first aid, and how it can be applied in the daily life.

Cork City Division would also like to congratulate Aisling O' Mara, who, in addition to winning the Iveagh Cup with Castleknock, also won the Individual First Aid, and Individual Caring competitions. Well done to Bryan Branigan and Claire Cousins who won the Dual Competition.We also thank Patrick Rushe for the use of his photographs.
