Remembering Past Members - November 2008 Print E-mail

Remembering Past MembersMembers of St John Ambulance, Cork City, and members of the community celebrated mass at our headquarters on Victoria Road in remembrance of all past members.  The event was attended by over sixty members of the adult division. We were also joined by parents of those who are in our cadet ranks, and by retired members of the Brigade.

The celebrant, Father Stevenson, spoke about the Brigade being one family who work together to provide a service to the public and to support one another when needed. He also alluded to our roots within the community in Cork and the fact that we have been operational for over 70 years.

Assistant Commissioner Mr James Devine thanked Father Stevenson for his kind words, and thanked all those who attended in such numbers.

Among those remembered were Commissioner Mr Derek L. Robinson FRSCI K.St.J, Assistant Commissioner Mr Gerard Shorthall, and retired President of the Council, Mr. Clement Ryan K.St.J. This year also marked the passing of our Chief Superintendent, Dr. Helen Watson McKelvie,  and Mr Oliver Plunkett, Superintendent of City of Dublin Division. Each individually served the Brigade with distinction and pride over many years, and their insight and enthusiasm will be missed by all of us left behind. Our thoughts are with their families and friends, especially in the run up to Christmas.

As always, we will treasure fond memories of these and other past members, and try our best to continue the important work which they contributed so much to over the years.
