First Aid at "Live at the Marquee" - June 2008 Print E-mail

Live at the Marquee - Cork City"Live at the Marquee" is one of Cork City's largest annual music festivals. The first event took place in 2005 when Cork was the European Capital of Culture. This year, fourteen events will take place between the middle of June and the start of July. These include such legendary artists as Christy Moore, Neil Young, Meat Loaf, Paul Simon and Pink.

St. John Ambulance, Cork City, is working in conjunction with the HSE, the Order of Malta, and the Irish Red Cross in order to ensure that adequate first aid and ambulance cover is provided for festival goers. Each voluntary organisation will cover an equal number of events.

As with most music festivals in Ireland, help for anyone who feels ill or gets injured will be near at hand. In the event of any nature of medical emergency, contact a steward, a member of the Gardai, a member of security or a uniformed first aider. They will inform the medical controller who will immediately dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment.

The first aid post is located on the left of the stage as one looks at it. This will be manned through out the event. Usually, there is anything between 12 and 14 medical personnel present at the venue. This is dependent on the nature of the event taking place.

For us, the most common occurence we deal with at such events are people who simply feel faint or suffer anxiety attacks. Given the noisy environment, and the large crowd, it is only natural for many people to feel ill at ease. Help is available, and should this happen to you, we will do our best to provide a safe environment for you to recover so that you can go back to enjoy the rest of the event. It is better to seek help as quickly as possible though as this helps prevent any complication such as loss of conciousness, which could potentially result in further injury.

Our unpaid volunteers, and those of our sister organisations, are delighted to be at your service for all your first aid needs through-out this wonderful event. We hope that everyone enjoys the festival.
