We joined the Ballincollig Fire Brigade and the Cork branch of the National Ambulance Service in a major accident simulation. As we form part of the Major Incident Plan for the region, these events allow us to train alongside our full-time colleagues, giving us an appreciation of their skill set and offering them a chance to point out our strengths and weaknesses. We feedback this into our training plan. Working together, the responders treated, prioritised, and extracted casualties. It was an excellently organised event and we would like to thank both Ballincollig Fire Brigade and the HSE paramedics for giving us this opportunity.

St John Ambulance, Cork City, was proud to play host to over 40 cadet teams from around the country. Competitors registered at our headquarters at 6 Victoria Road before being transported to the competition venue at the premises of Nemo Rangers. The competition consisted of 4 different scenarios that included burns, fractures, heart attacks, bleeding and head injuries. Each team of 4 was allowed only 10 minutes to treat their casualties. They were scored by judges including nurses and paramedics. After the competition, each team was briefed by the judge on how they did.

At St. John Ambulance, Cork City, we are continually adding to our fleet of vehicles. We are delighted to announce our newest addition. This Crusader Ambulance will undoubtedly attend thousands of duties in its lifetime. It is a purpose built vehicle designed especially for St. John Ambulance. The Crusader Ambulance was a collaborative project between our organisation and ATT Papworth. It is a fully CEN certified ambulance. Because of the nature of the work we do, the ambulance has also been specially adapted to serve as a patient transfer vehicle, an emergency ambulance, and a mobile first aid post. This ambulance will operate alongside two existing crusader ambulances.
