St John Ambulance, Cork City, were invited to provide medical cover at the National Finals of the Cups and Shields Competition at Monkstown Golf Club, situated on the outskirts of Cork City, Ireland. We have provided first aid and ambulance cover at this venue many times before, but it is the first duty there since a major upgrade of the clubhouse was completed. The competition was held from Monday the 15th to Sunday the 21st of September inclusively. At St. John Ambulance, we enjoy opportunities to work alongside our partners from all disciplines of the emergency services. Last summer, in association with Irish Search And Rescue Dogs Association (IRDA), and Novartis Ringaskiddy Ltd. Fire Department, we took part in a joint exercise that allowed each organisation to test its first response capabilities. The scenario involved locating and rescueing live casualties who were trapped in rubble and unstable debris. Each casualty presented to the collaborative rescue team had specific conditions that had to be managed while they were being extracated to waiting ambulances. Read More...

St. John Ambulance, Cork City, are delighted to announce that we won an International First Aid Competition in the United Kingdom on Saturday, the 5th of July. The event was held in conjunction with the St. John Ambulance, United Kingdom National Finals in the Fairfields Halls in Croyden. We would like to thank Doctor Margaret Austin, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of St. John Ambulance, United Kingdom, for devising a new competition and inviting teams from Ireland to compete. St. John Ambulance, Cork City, are delighted to announce the acquisition of a custom built 4*4 Nissan Pathfinder Ambulance. This is the second addition to our fleet this year. We believe this vehicle will play an instrumental part in the service we provide. The events we cover, especially equestrian, sometimes do not lend themselves to getting an ambulance within close proximity of a casualty. Our new ambulance will allow us to travel more effectively off road, increasing our chances of getting equipment and personnel close to any incident that may occur quickly. Read More...
