St John Ambulance, Cork City, was delighted to join a multi-disciplinary Emergency Voluntary Services Information and Recruitment Exhibition held in association with the Knocknaheeney/Holyhill Justice Project during February. This community awareness event was held in the Terence McSwiney Community College, Knocknaheeny, Cork City. Members of St John Ambulance, Cork City, and members of the community celebrated mass at our headquarters on Victoria Road in remembrance of all past members. The event was attended by over sixty members of the adult division. We were also joined by parents of those who are in our cadet ranks, and by retired members of the Brigade. The celebrant, Father Stevenson, spoke about the Brigade being one family who work together to provide a service to the public and to support one another when needed. He also alluded to our roots within the community in Cork and the fact that we have been operational for over 70 years. Read More...

St John Ambulance, Cork, is proud to have won the inaugural St John Ambulance First Responder Competition. The event involved a team test and was held in the O’Brien Institute; the training centre for the Dublin Fire Brigade. The Cork City Division emerged victorious after competing against 3 other teams for the Montgomery and Dan O’Brien Trophies. The event was adjudicated by health care professionals who specialise in Accident and Emergency work and the scenario was designed to test team members’ competence at using first responder skills in a realistic environment that is likely to arise while providing event first aid cover. This weekend, St John Ambulance, Cork City, Ireland, provided first aid and ambulance cover for the Cork County Hurling Final between Sarsfield and Bride Rovers at Pairc UI Chaoimh. Twenty volunteers tended to the first aid needs of players and approximately twenty thousand spectators, and four St John Ambulance vehicles were standing by on site for the duration of the event. St John Ambulance, Cork City, has a proud history of working at Pairc UI Chaoimh since the current stadium opened in 1974. During that time, our members have tended to many casualties, including some who have been revived by our members after suffering cardiac arrest. Read More...
